WBGZ broadcasts local news, sports, and talk, primarily for the greater Alton, IL, area. On the air for more than 60 years, the station was originally known as WOKZ, until it was changed to its current call letters in the early 1980s.It has a 24 hour local news/talk format with two daily talk shows, a morning and afternoon drive show, local weekend programming, coverage of local high school sports, a popular outdoors show, and other various programs.
In 2015, it added an FM signal at 94.3, joining the 1570AM which greatly enhances it’s nighttime presence in the market. The station also streams live at www.AltonDailyNews.com
WBGZ can be heard primarily in Madison County, Jersey County, and southern Macoupin County in Illinois, and eastern St. Charles and northern St. Louis County in Missouri.
