Illinois American Water serves approximately 1.2 million people, in 126 communities, supplying high quality water and wastewater service. We abide by regulations, invest in our vast infrastructure, educate our customers on wise water use and help out where we can in the cities and towns that we serve.

The Illinois Commerce Commission sets the rules and we carefully follow them. These regulations help to ensure that everyone is receiving quality water and wastewater service at a fair price. All increases in service rates are directly related to the cost of providing high quality service and are subject to a public review process and a comprehensive review and approval by the Illinois Commerce Commission.
Illinois American Water operations follow strict regulations created by United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) regulations that help to provide high quality drinking water. Because we work in cooperation with the USEPA to help in the development of national drinking water standards, we are often years ahead of the industry in implementing regulations.
Illinois American Water is committed to delivering high quality water to all of our customers. We conduct over 57,000 tests per year for about 100 potential contaminants, checking drinking water quality at every stage of the water treatment and delivery process.
At Illinois American Water’s lab in Belleville, and at our local utility labs, we conduct about one million sophisticated water quality tests each year. Our lab is recognized nationally as an industry leader. We have won dozens of awards, nearly 60 competitive research grants and three patents.
