A River Runs Through Us at the Corner of 9th and Piasa Street
Artist: Jeanie Cousley
Dedicated: October 2012

A 150-foot colorful mural features images of life along the Mississippi River, including a sailboat, the Clark Bridge, and the River Road. Brightly colored flowers and vines weave among the panels, connecting the scenery. The mural was a collaboration between Alton Main Street, the Rotary Club of Alton-Godfrey, Hayner Library, and the Jacoby Arts Center. Nearly 100 children who attended Riverbend Head Start helped the artist paint the mural. “I helped paint this purple flower,” said Zach Ansell, whose mother, Sarah, chaired the project’s design committee. (Currently, the full beauty of this mural is obscured by a construction lot for the City of Alton’s ongoing sewer separation project).
