Erin Frew, co-owner of Frew’s Bridal, wanted a mural that would cover an eyesore behind her business and serve as an artistic backdrop for fashion photography. She knew Sarah DuPont, a young artist from Brighton, and wanted to give her a way to showcase her drawing and possibly advance her art career. Spanning over 40 feet along a retaining wall, the black-and-white simplicity and magnetic gaze of a beautiful woman surrounded by feathers are hard to miss. “I am self-taught,” Sarah said. “I have not taken any art classes, and I am honored that someone would allow someone without a huge background to do something like this.” Erin is proud of the mural, saying it really captures what she wanted to represent her business and feels it contributes to the beautification of Downtown Alton.
