Jennie D. Hayner Pocket Park Mural at 410 State Street

In March of 2001, the Jennie D. Hayner Library Association convened a special meeting to vote on a resolution. The resolution was to fund and create a Pocket Park that would feature a mural by St. Louis artist Ana Maria Hartenbach. The whimsical mural, completed in 2002, showcases lush landscaping and a white arch bearing the title, Hayner Library. The project was recognized in 2004 at Pride, Incorporated’s annual dinner, and officially named the Jennie D. Hayner Park. In 2005, a beautiful clock was installed, and the association received an award from the Alton Marketplace Association. The mural was restored and enhanced by local artist Jeannie Cousley in 2016, further adding to its charm and significance.
